The Institute for Migration Research was established in 1984 through the merger of the Centre for Migration and Ethnicity Research and the Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies. It is the only scientific research institution in Croatia and the wider region dedicated to the systematic and continuous interdisciplinary study of migration and population mobility. By examining national and ethnic minorities, as well as various aspects of ethnic issues—with a particular emphasis on comparative research—the Institute contributes to advancing both academic and public understanding of their complexity and realities.
